An experienced and highly skilled ophthalmologist
Dr Edward Roufail has undertaken extensive ophthalmology training both locally and internationally. Prior to beginning clinical practice in 2008, he completed advanced surgical training in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, in New Zealand and the UK, and has undertaken training in laser vision correction at The London Eye Clinic.
His areas of clinical speciality include cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina and cataract, and refractive surgery. At the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, he is a valued member of the vitreoretinal team. In private practice, he sees patients across a number of eye clinic locations.

Dr Roufail has been a significant contributor to over 17 peer-reviewed publications. His commitment to remaining at the leading edge is also evidenced by numerous retinal specialist association memberships.
Teaching
As a member of the Eye and Ear vitreoretinal team, Dr Roufail is actively involved in training new retinal surgical fellows and ophthalmology registrars at the hospital.

As a member of the vitreoretinal team and member of the senior medical staff at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Dr Roufail has 24-hour access to their facilities, enabling him to manage acute sight-threatening emergencies, such as retinal detachments, without delay.
Dr Roufail’s vitreoretinal specialist training allows him to expertly manage conditions such as retinal detachments, vitreous haemorrhage, advanced diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal vein or artery blockages.
