Presbyond Laser Blended Vision in Melbourne
Designed to correct both far-distance and near-sight, Presbyond is for Melbourne residents experiencing the natural decline of their near-focusing ability, known as presbyopia. Dr Edward Roufail has undergone extensive specialist training in refractive surgery and is well-experienced in providing his valued patients with freedom from dependency on their glasses and contact lenses. He is also recognised as a specialist retinal eye surgeon based in Melbourne, offering advanced care in both retinal conditions and vision correction.
What is Presbyopia?
Presbyopia is a normal part of human ageing. Its effects usually become apparent around 45 years old as the lens inside the eye becomes increasingly stiff and inflexible. This results in a deteriorating ability to focus on near objects, such as reading or looking at your phone.
Traditionally, presbyopia is managed with glasses or contact lenses containing a reading prescription, which come with their own limitations. However, Presbyond laser blended vision in Melbourne is now available through Dr Roufail and his ophthalmology associates, giving you a better alternative to the inconvenience of optical aids.

How Presbyond Works
Presbyond laser blended vision is a modification of the traditional LASIK eye surgery procedure. Where LASIK surgery corrects the eyes only for distance sight, Presbyond gives Melbourne patients both some distance and near ability, meaning you can rely less on glasses for both far away and close viewing.
Like other laser eye surgeries, Presbyond is based on reshaping the cornea at the front surface of the eye in order to change how light bends through it. A flap of outer corneal tissue is created under topical anaesthesia to allow an excimer laser to reshape the deeper layers. The flap is then repositioned and given time to heal back in place.
Using a computer algorithm, the excimer laser is guided to shape the cornea such that each eye is given a degree of distance and near vision. Your dominant eye will be primarily corrected for far-distance with a small degree of near, while your non-dominant eye will be treated for better reading sight with a small degree of distance vision. Your brain then learns to adapt to this new visual experience.
